Love from Customs?

Who would have guessed it - a speech about tackling corruption in the Customs service was the biggest hit of all. So the service that manages the taxes on imports and exports to Ghana has had its challenges with corruption, and the US Customs service is going to help out with a new Internal Affairs Unit (the press release for all this went out this morning).

Writing the speech, I thought it was fairly dull. But the applause lines I had written: praising the new commissioner of Customs for his previous work assisting the new government of Liberia was rapturous. The announcement of new money to a government will always bring applause, but wow, people were on their feet. It was a bit of a rush. All the tv stations were there, I cannot wait to see the coverage on the news tonight! I think the reporting will be very favorable.
